After few hours of train from Ancona...
I finally arrived at Venezia Santa Lucia station.
Outside the station.... human beings everywhere
In Venice, you can either travel by water taxis... which are expensive
or Vaporetto a.k.a waterbus
I bought a 24 hr ticket ie unlimited travel within a day. P/s: there was no ticket inspection anyway.
Just like normal bus system, there are different stops with frequent waterbuses on different number traveling on different lines
The hostel I was staying, on an isolated island, can only be reached by water transportation.
with St Mark's Square right opposite
the water is busy everyday
the Grand Canal
St Mark's Campanile
St Mark's Basilica
the Doge's Palace
Dinner
Making full use of my 24hr ticket, I took the night boat trip. Waterbuses in Venice operate 24 hrs and it's a safe place even at night.
Good morning Venezia!
I started my exploration very early in the next morning... while the moon was still there.
and the sun on another side
the always crowded Piazza San Marco was empty
St Mark's Clocktower
Another tip for lone traveler: if you need somebody's help to take a picture for you, always find those carrying SLR cameras. However, there are also some exceptions, obviously I've found the wrong person.
Gondola - I'm sure you've seen them in Genting First World, except that these are real people.
There are over 400 bridges in Venice
I did get lost in this mysterious city, but that is nothing new to me, I'm always... erm... lost
Saying goodbye to Venice
Nothing. Just an old man on the same waterbus with me, who wore a cartoon watch... upside down
Back at where I came from.. Santa Lucia railway station
Enjoyed the sunshine like everyone else while waiting for my train
Venice is rather disappointing. The real picture, is not as beautiful as what you see here. Places and water are dirty. I have to admit that my stay in Venice is too short that I didn't have enough time to explore it inside-out. But if Venice is to be flooded by rising water and disappeared by tomorrow, at least I can tell that I was there once. Anyway, I will be back and hopefully Venice is still there for me.
Next station: Roma Termini
