Liverpool Explorace

I participated in the Liverpool Explorace which was organised by the Liverpool Malaysian Society last Saturday. My original plan on that day was to go around the city but since one of my friends couldn't make it, we decided to join the race as it served the same purpose of exploring the city. Moreover, there were prizes to be won!

Before the game started, we were given a map and 10 clues indicating 10 famous places in the Liverpool city. In 3 hours time, we were required to go to the indicated places, look for the station masters and complete the tasks given in order to collect all 10 tokens.

We were in a team of 2, but we pakat with another team, so basically we played in a group of 4.

1st
'Built up in 1849,
Burnt down in 1934,
Where graduates go,
Find Rubato.'
Ans : Philharmonic Hall
Task: Find key chain hidden around the place

2nd
'The red is not for Liverpool,
The blue is not for Everton,
Look for the east,
You find what you seek.'
Ans : Imperial Arch of Chinatown
Task: Win the station master for 3 times in playing 'chicken, burger, chips' (something like scissors, rock, paper)

3rd
'Old from outside, posh from inside,
Favoured by Lewis, feared by tourist,
Nearer to McD, further from uni.'
Ans : Adelphi Hotel
Task: Answer 10 questions about the society and committees. Detention for 2 minutes for each question answered wrongly.

We were detained for 2 minutes here.

4th
'Our favourite fruit loving,
Cuddly looking,
Vivid but not obtrusive city figure.'
Ans : Superlambbananas

This is the Original Superlambbanana, which is the largest of all. It is the most 'banana' superlambbanana for me as it is wholly in yellow colour.

Task: Feed your partner with 2 bananas
Not bad, energy supplement for us since we walked a lot.

5th
'An avian couple encased in tomb of stone,
Entrusted to watch land and sea,
But should they take flight,
Liverpool shall cease exist.'
Ans : Royal Liver Building
Task: Throw 3 balls into the cups.

It sounds stupid but it took us more than 10 minutes to get 3 balls in.

The Royal Liver Building is an important landmark of Liverpool. Situated right beside River Mersey, it is a pair of clock towers with 2 Liver Birds standing on top of each tower. There is a well-known legend that the Liver Birds watch over the land and sea, if one of them were to fly away, the city of Liverpool would cease to exist. Therefore, to prevent the birds from flying away, they are chained to the domes. Hahaha.
The building is too big and I was standing too near so I couldn't take a full picture of it. Next time I'll show you how the birds are chained.

On our way to the next destination, we passed by another tourist attraction - Albert Dork. It is very famous yet I have no idea what it is. One day I'll figure it out.

In front of Albert Dock, this is the Yellow Duckmarine which brings tourists for sight-seeing tour around Liverpool. Initially, I snapped a photo of it because it looks funny.

But within few seconds I turned away, it splashed into the water. One day I'll get a ride on it. £11.95 for an adult, anyone want to sponsor?

6th
'You will hear me when you shout in cave
you will come to me to watch the stars.'
Ans : Echo Arena

This is the place where the MTV Europe Music Awards will be held on 6th November this year.

Task: Sing and dance Rihanna's "Umbrella" by holding an umbrella
It was sooo embarrassing as people were passing by. However, since my partner didn't know how to sing the song, she danced with the umbrella while I sang it. Well, at least I didn't have to dance.

7th
'Solve the jigsaw puzzle and find the place in it'
Ans : Liverpool One
Task: Take photos of the 7 different alphabets 'LIVMSOC' from anywhere.

Saw something interesting in the meantime. They were raising fund, if not mistaken.

The Liverpool One was the last place we 'explored'. Even though we knew the answers of all the clues, we didn't manage to get to the following places as we ran out of time (the city is big). But one day I will explore them on my own.

8th
'One end is the St.Luke Church,
Another end leads to Clayton Square,
Famous for cafe, high street stores.'
Ans : Bold Street
I've been there before, a street where you can spend till you broke.

9th
'48.35x2 = I turn around all year round in the sky'
Ans : St. John's Beacon aka Radio City 96.7 tower
The tallest building in Liverpool situated in the city center. It looks quite similar to KL Tower (well, every tower looks the same) and it has a revolving restaurant on it too.

10th
'Neo-classical style is my style,
I have defendants waiting to be judged,
And stars eager to perform,
The Starr was once shining on my roof.'
Ans : St. George's Hall
Concert halls + law courts

So before we get to these 3 places to complete our mission, we were asked to go back to the starting point.
However, we still ended up to be the first runner-up!
and we won a free trip to Nottingham on 8 November for the Malaysian Nottingham Games, which is an inter university games amongst the different Malaysian Societies organised by Nottingham Malaysian Society in every year. Woohoo!

After the game, we were starving. Lunched in Quickchef with my seniors.

Chicken veit with chips. You can see how BIG the chicken is.
